When a Georgia mother suddenly had to provide for her family alone, Thrive Lights helped her identify priorities and build a path forward. With support, she transformed crisis into resilience and hope.
A Family’s Journey from Crisis to Resilience in Georgia
When a Georgia family faced the sudden incarceration of the father by ICE, their world shifted overnight. The mother, who had never worked outside the home and was expecting her second child, suddenly had to shoulder full financial responsibility while caring for her family. Rent, transportation, and emotional well-being all became overwhelming challenges.
Finding a Path Forward
Through Thrive Lights (locally called Aspire), the family was able to identify where they were struggling most. Financial stability was marked red, emotional well-being was yellow, and the mother shared how overwhelmed and uncertain she felt about managing on her own.
With the support of Telamon and its network of partners, the mother was connected to legal assistance through the UFW Foundation and GLAHR, gained immediate support through Abriendo Puertas, and received help with utility bills from South Georgia Outreach Program. A local business even stepped in with a donation, enabling her to raise $360 to cover basic needs. For her emotional health, she began free counseling with a Mental Health Specialist through Telamon’s referral system.
Building Strength and Support
What started as a moment of crisis grew into a story of resilience. Over three months, community resources helped ease the family’s financial burden and restored hope. A local church contributed to the father’s bond, reuniting the family and lifting a weight off the mother’s shoulders. With her husband home, she could focus on seeking employment and building stability for their children.
Why It Matters
For this family, Thrive Lights was more than a survey. It became the starting point for action. By identifying her own priorities, the mother took the lead in building a support system that made her stronger, more confident, and able to advocate for her children.
“I didn’t know how I was going to do it on my own, but with Telamon’s help I received, I feel stronger and more confident that my children will be okay and I can advocate for family.”
For Telamon, this journey also sparked new partnerships across Georgia, expanding the safety net for families navigating difficult political and social environments.
