Jorge started with red indicators in income, budgeting, credit, and English literacy. With Thrive Lights and SparkPoint support, he achieved steady progress and built a stronger future for his family.

From Barriers to Breakthroughs in Orange County

When Jorge first joined Orange County United Way’s SparkPoint program, he was working part-time and struggling to support his family. Without a budget, savings, or credit history, even daily expenses felt overwhelming. During his first meeting with his Case Manager, Jorge completed the Thrive Lights survey. Several indicators showed red, including income, credit, budgeting, and English literacy.

Identifying the Gaps

Seeing the results helped Jorge pinpoint where to begin. He recognized the need to increase his income, build credit, and improve his English skills. With his Case Manager’s support, he created a plan to address these areas step by step.

Taking Action

Over the following months, Jorge’s determination paid off. He secured a full-time job that increased his income by $1,200. He opened a savings account and began setting money aside each month. He also applied for a secured credit card to start building his credit history.

Knowing that language skills were essential to reaching his goals, Jorge enrolled in ESL classes to improve his reading and writing in English.

Steady Progress

Each step forward was reflected in his Thrive Lights results. Jorge moved from red to green in multiple areas: applying for credit, maintaining a good credit score, following a budget, earning enough income, and literacy in English. Beyond finances, he also saw improvements in his home life, conflict resolution, goal setting, personal happiness, and motivation to keep learning.

A Better Tomorrow

Jorge’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and personalized support. Through Thrive Lights and the SparkPoint program, he built financial stability, gained confidence, and created a stronger foundation for himself and his family.
