By using Thrive Lights to set clear priorities, a young couple pursued education and steady employment. Their perseverance turned red lights into green, creating stability for their growing family.
Building a Brighter Future in Indiana
In 2023, a mother of two, soon to be three, realized that her family needed to make changes to build a more stable future. Through Thrive Lights (locally called Aspire), she and her fiancé discovered that their biggest challenges were clear: not enough income and no savings.
Starting with a Vision
The Aspire survey helped the family see both their strengths and their struggles. They had safe housing, a supportive extended family, and their children enrolled in Head Start programs. But their financial picture was fragile. The couple agreed that she would finish her nursing degree, and he would find stable work to support the family while she studied.
Steps Toward Change
Over the next year, their perseverance paid off. The mother was accepted into a nursing program, and the father landed a well-paying job that even sent him to Italy for training. Along the way, they leaned on local community centers, job boards, and the support of other families to keep them motivated and moving forward.
A Turning Point
When they completed their follow-up Aspire survey, they saw the results of their hard work. Red lights were turning into green lights.
“Both agreed there have been some ‘hiccups,’ but they understand what it takes to make it work by staying focused and working hard.”
Today, the mother not only pursues her nursing career but also serves as an Officer in Policy Council and the Head Start Parent Committee, giving back to the community that helped her along the way.
Building for the Future
For this family, Thrive Lights was more than an assessment. It was a mirror showing both the challenges ahead and the opportunities to build on. By setting their own priorities and working steadily toward them, they transformed uncertainty into momentum for a brighter future.
